Winter Skincare Routine

Skincare is something I try and take very seriously, while using as minimal product as possible. Depending on the time of year (especially how much humidity is in the air), my routine switches up. I have combo-dry skin, so this will not work for all skin types. Here is what I do in the winter/dry months:

NIGHT

I’m starting with this one first, since I only wash my face once a day (when I shower at night). I know a lot of people believe in washing the face twice a day, but my skin gets wayyyy too dry if I do that – even in the summer.

While I’m in the shower, I first wet my face and then use just water and a facial brush to get off the top layer of makeup/dirt/etc. Then, I wash the brush with soap so that I’m not reapplying that nastiness back onto my face. Next, I apply one pump of the Avéne Gentle Milk Cleanser (a note that this is NOT for oily skin types) onto the brush and rub it around my face in circular motions. After, I was the brush again so that bacteria is not sitting overnight. Finally, I pat my face dry with a towel.

My #1 rule for my skincare is to never touch my phone during this process. Phone surfaces are absolutely disgusting, and there’s no way I’m going to be tainting my face with that! (I sound like a brat, I know, but I take this very seriously!!)

Next, I’ll take a cotton pad and put coconut oil on it to remove my makeup/moisturize my eyelashes. I try not to go anywhere else on my face with the pad, just because I don’t want my skin to get too oily. I’m trying to go as natural as possible with makeup, so I just use organic coconut oil for this. It’s super effective and hydrates the skin really well.

Finally, I use the SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil. A little of this stuff goes a long way, and it’s the only product I’ve used that effectively helps me combat the harsh winter air. I fill the dropper about halfway and then put a drop on my forehead and both cheeks. I just use my (clean!!!) hands to distribute the product around my face.

MORNING

My face naturally gets more oily as I sleep, so I try and go lighter on the product at this step of my routine. As I mentioned, I only wash my face at night so I just hydrate in the morning. I use the Simple Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream primarily on my forehead and cheeks. (I know it’s a night cream, but it’s light enough for my skin during the day and provides the additional hydration my skin needs).

So there you have it! I also use a hydrating foundation (whereas I’ll use a matte one in the summer) to give my skin any moisture it can get.

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions!

Truly,
Taylor
